Victor Olavarria has been drumming since he received his first pair of drumsticks as a gift when he was in the fourth grade. As a kid, he grew up playing in bands throughout junior high and high school, all while taking private drum lessons at Donn Bennett Drum Studio. After graduating high school, Victor attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. During his time there, he performed in numerous bands and studied with many renowned, world-class drummers. He majored in Professional Music with a concentration in performance and private studio teaching. After graduating, Victor moved back to the Seattle area to pursue his career in music.
Victor has been teaching drum lessons professionally since 2007. He has experience teaching all ages, levels, and styles and strives to instill in his students the same love and passion for drums and music that he has. Victor’s teaching method combines technical exercises with the study of different songs so his students can see how the techniques they are learning apply to different musical situations. In addition to learning songs, transcriptions of the tunes are provided to help the students with their reading skills. Victor understands that everyone learns differently, so he will adapt his lessons to best fit the personality of the student. He strongly believes that drumming, and music in general, should be fun.
Victor has performed and recorded with a number of groups over the years, the most notable being Hey Marseilles (www.heymarseilles.com) and Numbers (www.numbersmusic.net). He appears on Hey Marseilles’ debut full-length album “To Travels & Trunks” and appears on Numbers’ self-titled EP, as well as their full-length album “Three.”
